Elizabeth Murray is the daughter of Archibald Murray and the sister of Ruth Dutton, Laura and Wallace Murray, the cousin of James Murray and the half-sister of Juliet Murray. She is Emily Starr's aunt. She is a main character on the Emily of New Moon book trilogy and is a strict, stern spinster but also a just, no-nonsense woman. Although sometimes using unpleasant means, Elizabeth Murray instills much needed discipline in her young niece's life.

Early life[]
Not a lot is said about Elizabeth's life, but there is a few mentions of it in Emily of New Moon. When she was young, she lived with her father Archibald Murray and her siblings. Her father is described as intolerant, autocratic and tyrannical to Elizabeth and the rest of his family. When aunt Elizabeth was a child, her cousin Jimmy Murray came to visit. The two had an argument, and in a fit of anger, aunt Elizabeth had accidentally pushed cousin Jimmy into a well.
Physical Appearance[]
Aunt Elizabeth is described as stately and fair-skinned. She has cold blue eyes and has a "coronet of iron-grey hair". In the beginning of Emily of New Moon she's tall and thin with "clear cut features". She had a "long, thin mouth" and an "austere style".
Etymology[]
Elizabeth is a female given name of Hebrew origin and means God's promise or God is my oath.
It was implied that she was named after Elizabeth Murray.
